Access to learning fund

What is the Access to Learning Fund?

  • It's a non-repayable grant
  • for those who are in genuine financial hardship.
  • can be used to help with living costs including childcare, travel, accommodation, household expenses, books and course equipment,
  • It CANNOT pay tuition fees.
  • cannot help those who have mismanaged their finances and have simply 'run out of money'. 
  • also cannot fully compensate for the lack of parental contribution, especially where a student has only been able to take out the non-means tested part of the Maintenance Loan.

Learning fund

Who can apply to the Access to Learning Fund?  

  • Full-time "home" undergraduate & postgraduate students 
  • part-time "home" undergraduate & postgraduate students - studying at least 50% of a full-time course i.e. 60 credits.
  • EU students who have fulfilled the residency criteria 
  • International students CANNOT apply.

How do I apply?

Funds are available from October 2010 - June 2011 or until the funds are exhausted, whichever is the soonest.

Can I appeal?

If you are unhappy with the result of your Access Fund application you may appeal| against the decision.
