BSc (Hons) Applied Sport Science (Full Time)
Length: 3 years
UCAS: C602
Course overview
|This course provides a comprehensive understanding of the scientific theory, research and practice underpinning participation and performance in sport. You will have the opportunity to develop a detailed knowledge of physiological, psychological and biomechanical theories, and how these can be applied to a variety of environments to facilitate performance enhancement.
You can benefit from hands-on experience, such as testing athletes using field and laboratory-based equipment, and critically analysing and interpreting athlete data and published literature. Working with athletes to design and deliver individual and sport-specific intervention programmes will help you to develop and utilise professional skills in coaching, fitness gym and laboratory settings.
You can gain National Governing Body and industry awards as an integral part of the course. Moreover, your studies can count towards British Association of Sport and Exercise Scientists (BASES) professional accreditation. You may also qualify for a wide range of continuing professional development and high performance sports opportunities offered by our sport and recreation department, Sport Solent.
The degree, which has a strong practical focus, will also give you entry to Level 2 of the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS) at the end of your first year, and an option to attain REPS Level 3 at the end of your second year (assuming success at the appropriate level in the relevant academic units).
Please note that an additional compulsory charge is made in the first year of this degree to cover the cost of the REPS qualification. This additional charge is currently £300 in year one and an optional £200 in year two.
|
Teaching will employ a mixture of formal theoretical lectures, small group seminars and practical sessions.
