BSc (Hons) Applied Sport Science (Watersports & Outdoor Activities)  (Full Time)

Length: 3 years

UCAS: C605

Course overview

Working in sport|This course aims to provide you with a broad understanding of the scientific theory, research and practice underpinning participation and performance in watersports. We will help you to gain a detailed knowledge of how physiology, psychology and biomechanical theories can be employed specifically in watersport environments to facilitate performance enhancement.

You can put theory into practice when you test athletes using field and laboratory-based equipment, and critically analyse and interpret athlete data and published literature. You will also work with athletes to design and deliver individual intervention programmes. This experience will help you to understand how coaching fits into the wider context of watersport development, and the role of applied sport science in the facilitation of national and local watersport coaching objectives.

You can gain National Governing Body and industry awards as an integral part of the course. Moreover, your studies can count towards British Association of Sport and Exercise Scientists (BASES) professional accreditation. You may also qualify for a wide range of continuing professional development and high performance sports opportunities offered by our sport and recreation department, Sport Solent.
