Special features

The course has been designed to integrate theory and practice, and to provide a thorough preparation for the world of work in a broad range of advertising and communications professions.

The discipline-based knowledge and skills you'll develop are wide-ranging, covering marketing, advertising, public relations and management, as well as design and production in 'old' and new media.

The theoretical elements, while being considered in relation to practical and 'real work' situations on the new course, develop the intellectual and cognitive skills expected of Diplomates, particularly in critical analysis and the generation of creative responses to issues, situations and problems.

These qualities will equip you for a broader range of professional employment and for further study and professional development.  There is also strong emphasis on the acquisition of high level transferable skills, with particular emphasis on creativity, developing independence of thought and action, the use of initiative, flexibility in response to change, co-operative team working and leadership.

There is emphasis on career development, in recognition of the complexity of career choices, giving the opportunity for students to engage in a work placement and to prepare for employment during Year 2.

The course also gives emphasis to active forms of learning, offering a more participatory style of learning and to serve the vocational aim of the course. The role of Key Skills is developed through curricular integration across units.
