Keith JohnsonKeith Johnson became Pro Vice-Chancellor, External Development in July 2005 having been Acting Dean of the Faculty of Media, Arts and Society since September 2004.

A political economist and European business specialist, Keith received his doctorate from the University of Cambridge. He was an advisor to the European Commission and other EU institutions for more than twenty years on matters relating particularly to EU business and public information policy. From 1997-2004 he was Chief Executive and Managing Director of the Charlemagne Group of specialist European business and public affairs companies. Over the years he has personally acted as strategic management consultant to a wide range of leading UK and European companies on transnational business development, EU statutory compliance, lobbying and technology transfer issues.

Keith was previously Pro Vice-Chancellor (External Relations) at the University of Brighton from 1990 to 1996. He retains a particular interest in economic development and regeneration having been the Chair of the county-wide East Sussex Economic Partnership and two local Regeneration Partnerships in East Sussex. Until his present appointment, he was also UK Conseil Technique to several Chambres de Commerce et d'Industrie in northern France and Chairman of the independent radio station Bright 106.4 in West Sussex.
