Mark Farwell
Academic Staff Governor
 
Mark FarwellMark Farwell joined Southampton Institute in 1993. He was co-opted to the Board of Governors as Academic Staff Governor in September 2001 and sits on the Students Liaison Committee. 
 

Mark has taught in higher education institutions in Britain, Germany and the United States since becoming a graduate in government and sociology in 1982. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in Sociology in the Faculty of Media, Arts and Society. 

Mark was a precision engineer prior to starting his academic career in 1982 and has always maintained an interest in the local business community. He was a provider of residential and community-based care services in Southampton and more recently has returned to his engineering roots to become a founder and director of a West Sussex-based engineering company specialising in the reconditioning of industrial machines.

Mark is an active campaigner for human rights, enjoys thoroughbred horse racing, listening to progressive music, and is a devoted supporter of Portsmouth Football Club.
