The Service works closely with the Faculties to support course operational activities and is responsible for the University's Academic policies and regulations, including Quality Assurance policies, student appeals and academic misconduct. It also looks after the student record system, course and student related management information, graduation and certification, and the University's academic committees.

She then spent the next 15 years working for several Universities and large Engineering/ Computing Companies on Research and Development projects. With the birth of her first child, Ann realised she wanted a career change and joined the University of Portsmouth as a lecturer where she held a number of management posts in the Science Faculty. In 2001 she joined the then Southampton Institute as an Associate Dean in the Technology Faculty. During her time in Industry and Higher Education Ann has raised two children and read for Masters in Personnel Management and a Doctorate in Education as well as working as an external examiner and for the Quality Assurance Agency as a reviewer and auditor.
Whilst her career has moved into academic administration, Ann is still an active academic, regularly giving conference papers and supervising PhD students and has recently stepped down as the Treasurer of the Division of Occupational Psychologists.
